This poignant , originally published in 1929, reads with an amazingly modern voice. Larson has invited us into the thoughts of an upper class woman living in Harlem, able to successfully navigate the white and black worlds. Then a childhood friend of hers appears and everything changes. Powerful ideas, beautifully written.

An uncomfortable read about friendship, jealousy, longing for the past, and the consequences of the choices we make.
