Though i could use this moment to defend my faith in agnosticism, and how it is not lacking in creativity (but perhaps more abundant in it than the rest of you lot~grasp that Horatio?) i think i've already made that point at least once or twice, besides which i might be taking some wind out of Yann Martel's marvelous sails if i were to attempt to do so (but give us agnostics a chance, dude). Though the story of Piscine (Pi) is slow to start, the early build-up is intentional and necessary to the development of Pi through out his journey. Martel's rampant use of allegory and metaphors does become quite overwhelming at times, as it can be tiresome searching for the hidden meaning behind every scene. Overall, Life of Pi is undoubtedly deserving of the praise it receives, though I struggle to recommend it to most people.

I thought this book was okay, but the entire Part One was unnecessary to the main story, except for the fact that Pi’s family owned a zoo. A lot of parts were confusing, but overall I liked the story of Pi stranded with Richard Parker.
