A novel based closely on the real life adventures and misadventures of the grandmother of author Jeannette Walls (author of the memoir The Glass Castle). The book starts off in a mud house in Arizona, and doesn't get any easier from there. A fascinating glimpse into life on the Western frontier (in some ways a somewhat more recent version of Little House on the Prairie) and a character study of perseverance.
