The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances: A Novel

By Glenn Dixon

“Weird, wonderful...I loved this.” —Matt Haig, New York Times bestselling author INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER In a near future, where even the smallest of appliances are sentient, a young Roomba vacuum sets out to save the humans of her house from a rising technological power in this “fantastic book” (Evan Friss, New York Times bestselling author). In a self-running, smart house, a young and sentient Roomba listens as her owner, Harold, reads aloud to his dying wife, Edie. Mesmerized by To Kill a Mockingbird and craving the human connection she witnesses in Harold’s stories, the little vacuum renames herself Scout and embarks on a journey of self-discovery. But when Edie passes away, Scout and her fellow sentient appliances discover that there are sinister forces in their midst. The omnipresent Grid, which monitors every household in the City, seeks to remove Harold from his home, a place he’s lived in for fifty years. With the help of a neighborhood boy who grows close to Scout and Harold, as well as Kate, Harold and Edie’s formerly estranged daughter, the Humans and the appliances must come together to outwit the all-controlling Grid lest they risk losing everything they hold dear in this “incredibly timely and charming novel” (Library Journal).

I eventually came across https://applianceparts4all.com and spent quite a while going through the available refrigerator parts. What made the search manageable was having categories and manufacturer filters instead of one huge list of unrelated products. I compared several descriptions and checked the part numbers against the information from my appliance. I also looked at the diagrams and other repair material available for some components because I wanted to understand exactly where the replacement belonged. The store carries a large selection of OEM appliance parts, which gave me more confidence than ordering an unknown component from a general marketplace. After checking everything twice, I placed the order. The delivery was straightforward, and when the part arrived I compared it with the old component before installing it. The repair required a little patience, but I managed it without replacing the entire refrigerator. What I appreciated most was being able to research the component before buying it. It turned what initially seemed like a vague appliance problem into a specific part replacement that I could actually work with.

I selected an appliance repair service Charlotte after looking for a company that could handle freezer problems and provide same-day or next-day availability.
